How to get a GOLF Scholarship and PLAY in College: Part 6

About Junior Golf believes the Polo Rankings (AJGA) are critically important in that most of the top invitational tournament in the country will use this ranking system to determine which junior boys and girls will be invited to these high-profile events. The Polo Golf Rankings are a select ranking system that is used to rank the top junior players in the country. These rankings will be used to: 1) round out AJGA Invitational fields; 2) guide the Rolex Junior All-America selection process; and 3) determine Canon Cup teams.

Rankings Calculation

1.    Rankings are calculated on a 52-week rolling points cycle. Only the most recent 52 weeks are counted in the rankings.

2.    Players are ranked on an “average points per event basis.” A minimum denominator of 6 is set, meaning that players who play in fewer than 6 events will still have their point total divided by 6 to determine their ranking. Players may be ranked if they have played in fewer than 6 events, but they must play 6 events in order to receive maximum credit for each performance.

3.    All starts in ranked events will count towards a player’s ranking. Any withdrawals, disqualifications, etc., will count as an event played once a player begins a tournament.

4.    The system rewards players who compete against strong fields by assigning point values to each tournament used in the rankings. The point values awarded to a tournament are based on the strength of field for that event. Strength of field is determined by calculating the combined top-10 finishes (top-5 finishes for girls) of a given field over the past 52 weeks.

Points Scale You can find this on the AJGA website.

Assigning a Tournament Points

The following tournaments will be locked at the 200-point top level:

The ANNIKA Invitational, FootJoy Invitational, HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods, McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, The PING Invitational, ?Polo Golf Junior Classic, ?Rolex Girls Junior Championship, Rolex Tournament of Champions, ?The Junior PLAYERS Championship, Thunderbird International Junior, ?U.S. Girls Junior Championship, ?U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, ?Western Junior Championship

The following tournaments will be locked at the 100-point top level:

All other events will be assigned points based on the strength of field for that event. A tournament that meets the same strength of field standards as the above 200-point and 100-point events will be awarded those points. If an event does not reach those standards, it will be positioned accordingly (80, 60, 40, 30, or 20-point level).

Invitational Priority List Each AJGA Invitational has specific entry criteria. Please click here to view the AJGA Invitational Criteria. Players who meet the criteria for an Invitational will automatically qualify and receive an invitation to that event. Any spots not filled by players who have met the criteria will be opened to the highest-ranked players not previously eligible for an event according to the Polo Golf Rankings. Each AJGA Invitational will have a link on the main rankings page to view the Priority List for that event. Players who earn an invitation based on the Polo Golf Rankings will be contacted immediately, once finalized, with entry information for that event.
