Stack & Tilt: The Hot New PGA Tour Swing

Swing teachers Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett developed the Stack & Tilt golf swing after 20 years of research. The Stack & Tilt Golf Swing is a revolutionary golf swing that keeps your weight stacked over the ball for pure contact shot after shot.

Early in 2007, professional golfers like Australia’s Aaron Baddeley and former Masters Champion Mike Weir began to use the Stack & Tilt method. In the meantime, more than 20 other touring professionals have used the Stack & Tilt Golf Swing and the numbers are climbing rapidly. It is by far the hottest new swing method on the PGA Tour.

Most teaching pros believe that one of the fundamental elements of a golf swing is the weight shift to the right foot during the backswing to “load the swing.” Then releasing your weight to the left foot during the downswing to create power. Andy and Mike teach using the Stack & Tiltmethod, a player will set up with at least 60% of their weight on their left foot at address. As the swing begins the weight on the left side increases to about 80% as the left shoulder moves down instead of laterally. The weight distribution at the top of the swing should be about 80/20 on the left side. So, what does this do for you?

Well, the benefit of the Stack & Tilt is the lack of weight shift and less body movement, simplifying the swing. The spine stays vertical over the ball through the whole swing. This enables the player to achieve a more solid contact with the ball, a more penetrating ball flight and more consistency in their shot making.

Keeping your weight on your left foot is the simplest way to control where the club hits the ground, which is the first fundamental of hitting the ball. Golfers who shift to the right on the backswing have to make precisely the same shift back to the left by impact. That complicated maneuver is the biggest source of frustration in the game today. Most amateurs either top the ball or hit it fat. The Stack & Tilt shows you why this happens and why the Stack & Tilt Golf Swing method can easily take care of that for you.

About Golf could break the Stack & Tilt down for you and explain the entire swing piece by piece, however it would be much easier to take a look at their DVD Series.  Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett the inventors of the Stack & Tilt have really hit a hole-in-one. Take a look at the video below and then take the plunge and invest in this series for your golf library. It is really inexpensive and you will love the results.

  1. [...] Stack And Tilt™ Swing Review-DVD 1 The photo to the left is of PGA Tour player Mike Weir at this years Canadian Open. He is one of over 30 tour players using the Stack & Tilt swing. Below is my review of the first DVD in a 4 DVD Series. This video begins with Andy and Mike giving the user some ideas about what to expect from the progression of the videos. Andy & MIke also introduce the viewer to their use of “Catalogs” which are photos of past and present PGA Tour along with average amateur players being shown in the position they are describing and “Elements” which trace variations of each position. As the chapters progress, Andy and Mike do a an excellent job of taking you through the swing simplifying the Stack & Tilt method to the point that watching the first DVD would be sufficient to begin going out and practicing the swing. However, the most interesting and fascinating chapters of the video by far are Chapters 7-9 were Andy and Mike summarize the “Stack And Tilt™ Fundamentals of golf.” The traditional fundamentals in golf are related to the grip, the stance, the posture, the alignment, ball position and tempo. Andy and Mike counter with the notion that if these fundamentals are true, how is it possible that so many of the game’s great champions have virtually nothing in common in any of these areas? They argue, quite compellingly, that they do not. Rather, they pose the question, “What do all the great players have in common?” In the Stack & Tilt method the true fundamentals of golf are: The ability to strike the ground in the same spot everytime (making your divot in front of the ball). The ability to hit the ball with enough power to play the course in a reasonable amount of shots. The ability to reliably control the curvature of the ball. Visit The Official Stack And Tilt™ Website Pros: This video gives the viewer the ability to get a “quick start” in the Stack And Tilt™ Swing. The need to watch videos 2 – 4 are not necessary to begin using the swing. Cons: The video was shot on a cloudy and windy day. The video quality could have been better if shot in a controlled setting. Conclusion: DVD One alone is worth the entire price of the course. DVD 2 & 3 are for the more advanced players as I will get into in their review down the fairway. DVD Four is on the short game and you will be excited to see my review on it. Andy and Mike do an outstanding job  directly answering the question of what great players do alike, and not what they do differently. Only by understanding what they have in common can we make accurate judgements about what is useful information or not.
